My first bicycling segment started in 1986 from my home in Ohio, finishing near Fort Niagara, NY. Eventually, I added rides to the East Coast, Chicago, and South Dakota, before my longest ride, from Seaside, Oregon, to Winner, South Dakota. After connecting my rides to complete the cross-continental adventure, I began riding north to south, including segments that reached from Maine to Florida, Ohio to New Orleans, and from Fargo, ND, to Pittsburg, KS. Finally, I rode along Route 66 between Santa Monica, CA, and Joplin, MO, to complete the southwestern US in 2022, with extended spurs into Arkansas, Colorado, Nevada, and Utah.
Since bicycling to Hawaii was not an option, my wife and I flew there in Feb 2023 for a cruise around the islands, enabling me to ride while on shore.
After decades of solo riding, in July 2024, I joined a group ride for my Alaskan experience. The adventure combined nearly 400 miles of bicycling with van rides and a ferry through Prince William Sound. The trip started and ended in Anchorage while completing a loop through Fairbanks, Delta Junction, Tok, and Valdez.
The more I ride through America, the more I realize there is to discover. With so many trails and bicycle routes being added each year, I feel compelled to continue adding to my North American route. My wife, Barbara, accompanied me on her e-bike to ride the Katy Trail in October 2022, and in June 2023, I added a solo ride through Philadelphia, spending time in Gettysburg along the way. I completed Route 66 in October 2023, cycling from Chicago to Joplin. I also plan to spend additional time cycling in those states I feel need more due diligence, especially Colorado, West Virginia, and Wyoming. I'd love to add some International cycling to my adventures, targeting portions of the Tour de France routes and Toronto to Quebec City in Canada.
Stay tuned!!!
